KVP International has purchased SafePath-IVD, adding in-vitro diagnostic capabilities that span both veterinary and human medicine to its existing product portfolio.

The acquisition moves KVP — a supplier long known for veterinary products — into the diagnostics segment at a moment when point-of-care testing is reshaping how clinics work up cases. SafePath-IVD develops rapid diagnostic tests used in animal health and human health applications, giving the combined company a footing on both sides of the species line.

For veterinary practices, the practical effect is straightforward. Rapid in-house test menus have become a fixture of the exam room: parvovirus antigen tests, feline immunodeficiency virus and feline leukemia virus screening, heartworm antigen assays, and giardia panels routinely guide same-visit decisions on isolation, treatment and vaccination. A supplier that also manufactures or distributes those tests can bundle consumables, instruments and diagnostics into a single purchasing relationship — a consolidation play that matters to practice managers watching inventory costs and supplier lead times.

The cross-species character of the deal is its distinguishing feature. SafePath-IVD's portfolio serves human as well as veterinary diagnostics, and KVP framed the purchase explicitly as a way to expand capabilities in both domains. The deal also carries a food-animal and public-health dimension. Rapid on-farm and slaughter-side tests for pathogens and residues increasingly sit at the intersection of herd health and zoonotic disease surveillance. A company holding both veterinary and human diagnostic capabilities is structurally positioned for that surveillance market, where the same organism — influenza viruses being the clearest current example — must be tracked in animals and people alike.

KVP International did not disclose the purchase price or expected closing details in the announcement.

Neither company indicated immediate changes to product availability, ordering channels or catalog numbering, which typically means existing veterinary customers should see business as usual through the integration period. Practices that buy SafePath-IVD tests through other distributors will want to watch whether KVP eventually shifts distribution in-house — a common follow-on move after acquisitions of this type, and one that can affect pricing and availability for clinics with established supply contracts.
